I have a post-graduate certificate in education and some experience in teaching biology and other subjects up to A-level.

My own education was at Hereward Comprehensive, the Neale-Wade School and Downing College, Cambridge,  where I took a first-class Honours degree in Natural Sciences in 1982, specialising in Zoology, during which time I gained ten college and University prizes and scholarships.

I taught in schools and colleges before I began a PhD in Education at the University of Exeter, and then started work at SHEU in 1989.

For ten years I was a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society of London, but these days I’m lucky if I can tell which way round a beetle is pointing.
